Each town in Mallorca holds its market on set days, and those days differ from town to town. Arriving on the wrong day means finding no market at all.

Discover the best things to do in Mallorca

This article covers the main market in each town, the day it runs, what it sells, and how to plan a week of visits.

Which market to pick for your day, your base and your plans

If you stay in Palma, Pere Garau is the easy pick. It opens at 06:00 from Monday to Saturday, so you can shop early and keep the rest of the day free. Weekly markets are free to visit.

The other four towns are reached by road from Palma. Inca is the closest and Santanyí the farthest, so give Santanyí a full day. Going to Inca by train takes about 35 minutes; check the timetable on the SFM train website first.

Markets start at 08:00 and village buses are infrequent, so a car is the easiest way to combine two towns in one morning. With Offugo car hire and the code MALLORCA10, you save 10% on your rental.

Inca, Thursday: the big weekly market for leather and local produce

Inca’s Thursday market is the place to go for leather. Its more than 300 stalls sell leather goods that reflect the town’s leather-making trade, plus fresh food, household items and textiles. Come early, before the lanes fill with shoppers.

Leather handbags and belts are displayed at an outdoor market as shoppers browse flower stalls under umbrellas.
Inca’s weekly market runs on Thursdays, with stalls spread across the town centre.

The stalls spread across the centre, from Plaça d’Espanya and Carrer Major to Gran Via de Colom. Parking is easier outside the narrow streets, so park there and walk in. For more advice before you travel, read our tips for your first trip to Mallorca.

Getting to Inca

Take the train from Palma Intermodal station. The trip takes about 35 minutes, but check the live timetable on the SFM website for the Thursday service you plan to use. TIB buses also link Palma and Inca: see the TIB timetables.

When the market day falls on a public holiday, the date can change, so check with Inca town council.

Sineu, Wednesday: the livestock market for a traditional town day

Sineu’s Wednesday market is a working rural market. It runs every Wednesday from 08:00 to 13:00 around Plaça d’Es Fossar, and its livestock section is part of the weekly market. Come early, while the stalls are still full.

Shoppers browse produce, cheese, and meat stalls at an outdoor market, while ducks, chickens, sheep, and a goat stand in a wooden pen in the foreground.
Sineu’s Wednesday market combines livestock with food and other goods in the town centre.

You will find food, tools, clothes, household items and seasonal products. The market goes back to a royal privilege granted in 1306, so it has run for centuries as an everyday town market.

Park outside the centre

The streets in the centre of Sineu are narrow, and on market day the stalls make driving close to the centre difficult. Park farther out and walk in. Choose a spot before you reach the narrow streets, because turning back once you are inside them is harder.

Pere Garau, Palma: the city market open six days a week

Pere Garau, Palma’s city market, opens at 06:00 Monday to Saturday and closes at 14:30 Monday and Wednesday, 15:00 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 16:00 Saturday.

Palma’s other big covered market, the Mercat de l’Olivar, sits in the city centre near Plaça d’Espanya and is the one most visitors walk to. To taste the island’s produce with a local guide, join our Old Town & Market Walking Tour with wine, ham and cheese.

Alcúdia, Tuesday and Sunday: a market beside the old town

Alcúdia’s market takes place in the historic centre on Tuesday and Sunday, from 08:00 to 13:30. The stalls sell fruit, vegetables, clothing, leather goods and costume jewellery, so you can buy food and clothes on the same visit.

Leave time to park outside the busiest streets and walk into the historic centre. Check the town’s current parking arrangements with the council before you drive in.

Santanyí, Wednesday and Saturday: produce, crafts and ceramics

Santanyí’s market runs on Wednesday and Saturday, from 08:00 to 13:00, with more than 150 stalls. Local produce, crafts, clothing and ceramics are all sold here.

Colorful woven baskets, trays, and lidded containers are displayed at an outdoor market.
Santanyí’s market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays around Plaça Major and nearby streets.

The stalls are set up around Plaça Major and the streets close to it, so expect to walk between them. If you want food for the week and a gift in one trip, Santanyí covers both.

Parking and timing

  • Park at the edge of the centre, not in the narrow streets around Plaça Major. Parking is harder there on market days.
  • Walk the last part into the square. It takes a few minutes, and you still reach the stalls quickly.
  • Arrive soon after 08:00, when the market opens. You will find a space before the midday rush.
  • Carry a bag for your purchases, so your hands stay free on the walk back to the car.

Each market runs on its own days, so plan your visits by day, not by town alone. Match the towns you want to see with the days listed for each one.

Next, choose two or three towns for your week. Then confirm each market day and opening time with the town council, and start your route with the closest town.

After the Santanyí market, the coves of the south-east are close by. See Caló des Moro from the sea on our Caló des Moro & Cala s’Almunia boat tour.
